How to scan on Canon printer


This page explains how to scan on Canon printer using your Windows or Mac operating system. It is also possible to scan from your Android or Apple device by using the Canon PRINT Inkjet or SELPHY application. You can download the apps from the Play Store application on your Android device. For Apple devices like the iPhone, iPad, & iPod, obtain the applications from the Apple Store app.

Refer to the following procedure to perform the scan function.

  • Before beginning the process, make sure that your Canon printer can perform the scan function. Some of the models of the Canon machine will not have the scan feature.
  • Connect the Canon printer to your computer.
  • You can either use the wireless or wired option to connect the devices based on their specifications.
  • Lift the scanner lid of the Canon printer.
  • If your printer has an all-in-one paper feeder, place your original document for scanning in the tray.
Note: Refer to the manual of the Canon printer for guidelines to place your original document for scanning. Make sure that you place the document with their print side facing down.
  • Close the scanner lid after placing the document.

If you are Windows user, carry on with the following steps




  • Click the Start button or Windows icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Click on the Search field and type Windows Fax and Scan.
  • Select the Windows Fax and Scan option in the result.
  • The Fax and Scan application opens on the screen.
  • Click the New Scan button at the top.
  • Ensure that your printer name is present in the Scanner field.
Note: Use the Change button in the Scanner field to change the printer name if it is wrong.
  • Select the Profile drop-down list to select the type of document you have loaded previously.
  • Also, change the other settings like the Source, Color Format, File Type, and Resolution (DPI).
  • Click the Preview option to view the scanned document.
  • Tap the Scan button to begin the scan function. Now the Canon printer begins to scan the loaded document.

To find the scanner document after completing the process, refer to the following steps.

  • Start the Windows icon.
  • Search for File Explorer and select it.
  • Go to the Documents folder on the left side of the screen.
